Child & Adolescent Service

Four Winds is one of the leading specialized providers of child and adolescent mental health services in the Northeast. An experienced, multi-disciplinary, professional caring staff works with young children and adolescents in three homelike cottages. A broad range of emotional and behavioral difficulties are treated in these intensive programs. Services for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and impulse control disorders are also available and are included, when appropriate, in the individualized treatment plan developed for each child and adolescent. Families are encouraged to participate in treatment planning, family therapy and discharge planning.

The Teaching and Learning Center

The school program at Four Winds Saratoga is a core component of the evaluation and treatment milieu, contributing valuable information to the diagnostic process, providing behavior management strategies and supporting adjustment for the return to the home-school classrooms.

Child Service

The child service integrates individual, group, and family therapy with a full complement of educational, expressive and recreational therapies, under the supervision of a child and adolescent psychiatrist. Community meetings with children and staff encourage coping skills and socialization. Reinforcement of a positive self-image, promoting self-care skills, responsibility and independence are integrated into the daily routine. Play therapy, conducted in a safe, therapeutic space, is used as a modality for the younger children to allow free expression of their feelings. Certified masters-level teachers work with the children daily in a self-contained classroom setting. Educational progress and problems are addressed, and individualized programs are developed in keeping with the particular needs of each child.

Adolescent Service

Like the child service, the adolescent service integrates individual, group, and family therapy with a full complement of educational, expressive and recreational therapies under the supervision of a child and adolescent psychiatrist. Adolescents attend community meetings, and also participate in art, and insight-oriented group therapies led by a multi-disciplinary team of highly qualified professionals. This comprehensive program addresses adolescent problems including Depression, Substance Abuse, Suicidality, Social Isolation, Eating Disorders, and Physical and Sexual Abuse. Our multidisciplinary team approach encourages family participation in many aspects of treatment including therapy, education, therapeutic activities, and discharge planning.
