Adolescent Partial
Hospitalization Program

The Four Winds Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program is an intensive, medically supervised, outpatient treatment program. Adolescents who are transitioning from inpatient to outpatient care, and those not requiring inpatient treatment can benefit from this program. It is suitable for adolescents who cannot manage a normal daily routine for reasons related to depression, anxiety, psychosis, self-destructive behavior, or conduct problems. It can also benefit those who need a brief, comprehensive reassessment of their outpatient treatment, including a change in medication regimen. Substance abuse problems are addressed.

The Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program offers full day treatment, Monday through Friday, based on clinical and educational needs. Participants must be between the ages of 13 and 17. The program also offers educational services at The Four Winds Learning Center, our on-grounds school. The Learning Center staff communicates directly with the student's home school regarding curriculum. For classified students, meetings can be arranged with the school's special education team.

Working closely with the family is a guiding principle of the program. Each case manager/primary therapist meets with the family on a regular basis to address significant issues. Clinical staff are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to consult in a crisis situation with the patient and family.

The multi-disciplinary treatment team utilizes a cognitive-behavioral and psychoeducational approach. Central to the treatment is the development of coping skills to manage both the symptoms of the individual's illness and the stressors of every day life. Emphasis is placed on providing individuals with opportunities to develop a positive self-image and a sense of mastery.

The program provides case management, individual, group and family psychotherapy, medication management, as well as structured therapeutic activities. The treatment team coordinates its efforts with outpatient providers and/or those agencies that are currently involved in the case.
