Alternative Education Program

The Alternative Education Program is designed to assist students who have difficulty learning in a standard academic setting. As a service of the Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program, the Alternative Education Program offers intensive academic and emotional support in a highly structured therapeutic milieu. A psychiatric diagnostic evaluation is offered at the initial phase of the program.

Located on the campus of Four Winds Hospital, the Alternative Education Program will provide a continuum of educational services in coordination with the students home school district. Students will be given an individualized academic program. In addition to Masters Level Teachers, this program will be staffed by a multidisciplinary team including a Program Director, Psychiatrist, Social Worker, and a Patient Health Coordinator. Therapeutic services will include treatment planning, psychopharmacology (when necessary), daily group therapy, behavior management, transitional planning, discharge planning, therapeutic case management and 24-hour crisis services.

An 8:30 am arrival and 2:30 pm daily dismissal will include breakfast and lunch. Transportation services should be arranged by the home school district.

Referrals to this program are accepted from schools,outpatient providers, hospitals, parents and guardians. The student must participate in the referral and evaluation process.

Four Winds will work with the home school district to arrange payment for this program. In the event that the school district does not cover payment, the program can be paid for privately.
