Volunteering is a wonderful way to explore something completely new, or provide an opportunity to share a particular skill with others. At Four Winds, the volunteer corps works side-by-side with our team of respectful and caring mental health professionals. Volunteers function in several capacities throughout the hospital working with children ages 5-12, adolescents ages 13-17, and adults ages 18 and older.

  • Be a Recreation Assistant!
  • Join the activities/recreation specialists and get involved in special arts and crafts projects, pet therapy, cooperative gardening activities, math games and puzzles, and outdoor activities. If you have an artistic talent, i.e. music, dance, art and would be willing to share your talent with our patients, join our developing arts program.
  • Volunteer in Education: Teaching/Reading
  • Assist masters-level and special education teachers at The Learning Center, the Four Winds Hospital on-grounds school who provide tutoring for children and adolescents daily during the school year. Join the literary program and assist children with remediation in reading and primary subjects. Read to the children individually or in story groups. Do you have computer skills? Teach children and adolescents to use computers in The Learning Center classrooms.
  • Are you a Natural Ambassador?
  • Do you have an outgoing personality, good interpersonal skills and the ability to assist people? Then perhaps the Ambassador Volunteer position is for you! Greet patients as they arrive at the hospital, and assist those that are already here with general requests for newspapers, reading materials (library exchange), or assist people to their destinations.

You must be 18 years old, or older, to volunteer at Four Winds Hospital. In each of the volunteer positions, you will be supported and supervised by a trained professional staff member.

    Orientation
Each volunteer is required to complete an orientation at which you will be introduced to the standards of safety and confidentiality at Four Winds Hospital.

    Continuing Education Opportunities
Are you interested in learning more about mental health? Volunteers at Four Winds are invited to attend the Community and Professional Grand Rounds Education Lecture Series in the Spring and Fall of each year at no cost. These lectures, co-sponsored with continuing medical education credits by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, offer an exciting opportunity to expand your education, or explore something new.
