Adult Inpatient Treatment Program

Our adult inpatient hospital programs are designed to provide the highest quality of care to our patients.  Comprehensive treatment is provided in a compassionate and individualized manner, taking into account the unique circumstances of each person.

Housed in two comfortable cottages, Hathorn and Ferndell, our program strives to accentuate a patient’s strengths. Each unit is staffed by a multi-disciplinary treatment team consisting of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, psychologists, social workers, nursing staff, and other mental health professionals.

With the assistance of the treatment team, patients receive education on their diagnosis, develop an individualized treatment plan, and actively engage in skill-based groups that will help them on their road to recovery. Our goal is to assist every patient in developing self–care and coping skills that will allow them to better manage their symptoms and adapt to environmental stressors. Our therapeutic milieu, or setting, provides a safe environment in which they can practice these new skills.

During their course of treatment, a patient will participate in: Comprehensive Psychiatric/ diagnostic evaluation, collaborative treatment planning, individual therapy, extensive group therapy, skills training, family therapy, recreational activities and expressive therapies, and comprehensive discharge planning. Our group therapy program is individualized based upon the specific needs of each patient.

Our adult inpatient program is unique in that we also provide two evidence-based treatment services: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Dual Diagnosis/Chemical Dependency Services.

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
DBT is a specialized form of Cognitive Behavioral therapy which has been shown to be highly effective in assisting patients to reduce self destructive behaviors and to assist individuals in regulating their emotions.  This comprehensive program will heighten patient’s awareness to their self-destructive thoughts and behaviors and will facilitate the development of healthier methods of coping.  Patients will also be assisted in looking at lifestyle changes that will reduce crisis in their lives.  Individualized homework assignments focused on treatment goals will be provided as well as a comprehensive plan of how to manage symptoms and stressors outside of the hospital. Our highly-trained nursing staff provides “skills coaching” to patients, allowing them to practice these skills while on the unit so that they can generalization these skills into their daily life.

Patients who exhibit emotional dysregulation or self-destructive behaviors, with concurrent diagnoses such as: depression, anxiety disorders, borderline personality disorder, post traumatic stress disorder and self-injurious behaviors are ideal candidates for this comprehensive inpatient treatment.

  • Dual Diagnosis/ Chemical Dependency
Adult Services recognizes the need to provide concurrent treatment for individuals struggling with both a psychiatric diagnosis and an addiction.  Individualized assignments which are tailored to the patient’s stage of treatment will be provided.  Patients will be educated on the interaction between their psychiatric symptoms and their addiction.  Specific focus will be placed on the development of a relapse prevention plan and making recommendations for continued dual diagnosis treatment to continue to promote their recovery upon discharge.
