Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist II (Full-Time)

Four Winds Saratoga has an opening for a HIM Specialist II whose primary tasks included, but not limited to, responding to requests for patient information, attorneys, court orders, or other high level requests.  The HIM Specialist II at times will work closely with the Director to update and maintain the HIM Manual, Approved Forms, and necessary audit tools.  As well as perform quality chart reviews, live chart audits, take part in unit rounding to ensure compliance with the standards of the hospital, HIPAA, Joint Commission, OMH, and other regulatory bodies. The HIM Specialist II will keep the Director abreast of any questions, concerns, feedback or reminders which are deemed important to the Health Information Management as this person will be the primary trainer and point of contact for the Coordinator and Specialist I when the Director is unavailable. This position will also cover some clerical or HIM Specialist I duties as needed.

The HIM Specialist II will be point person for collaborating departments in the absence of the Director. This person will maintain knowledge of internal policies and procedures and be back up support for incident reporting, meeting coverage, regulatory reporting and access through NIMRS, MHPD, HBIPS, QualityNet, SAFEAct, and PERDS.  In the absence of the Director, the Specialist II is authorized to certify the completeness and accuracy of medical records. Within reason and during an extended leave by the Director, the Specialist II will be briefed on Outpatient PC work load and scheduling or other open topics in order to support the front end, program secretaries or other departments with high level HIM questions or concerns and if needed work closely with Administration to complete the monthly statistics and report cards.

Must have an Associate’s Degree or higher. Health Information Management or medical office experience required.  Completed HIM degree or currently enrolled in a HIM program will be prioritized. Preferred typing, basic math and good customer service skills, basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office (i.e. Excel, Word, Access), photocopying and fax machines is required. Job duties may require bending, lifting, stooping, pulling, pushing up to 20-25 lbs. excellent communication, organizational skills and ability to pay attention to detail are required. Some knowledge or understanding of HIPAA guidelines is preferred.
