Counseling Transgender Teens and Adults

Irwin Krieger, LCSW, A Clinical Social Worker who provided psychotherapy in a private practice setting for LGBT individuals, couples and families for over 30 years. He is the author of Helping Your Transgender Teen: A Guide for Parents and Counseling Transgender and Non-Binary Youth: The Essential Guide.

This workshop will outline a range of transgender identities, including non-binary identities, and the steps that transgender people may take to transition. Mr. Krieger will define some of the relevant terminology, cover the components of a comprehensive evaluation of gender identity, and discuss the interactions between various mental health conditions and the challenges that transgender people often face.
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to: 
• Describe a range of transgender identities, including non-binary identities, and some of the transition steps transgender individuals may consider.
• Understand the components of an evaluation of the gender identity of a teen or adult.
• Address some of the interactions between mental health conditions and the challenges that many transgender individuals face.

Fee: $25 per program, payable to Four Winds Hospital. 1.5 NY State Social Worker, Mental Health Counselors and CAT CEUs, 1.5 CASAC Section 2 criteria and CPP/CPS Section 1 criteria clock hours, 1.5 CME credits pending.
